What is FSSAI Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF)?

From April 1, 2026, all FSSAI licenses and registrations have perpetual (lifetime) validity — no expiry, no renewal. However, every license holder must pay an Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF) once a year to keep the license in Active status. The government AMF for Basic Registration is Rs. 100/year. What happens if FSSAI AMF is not paid?

If the Annual Maintenance Fee is not paid by the due date (your registration anniversary date), your FSSAI license is automatically marked Deemed Suspended — no grace period. You cannot legally manufacture, store, sell, or distribute food. You risk being removed from Swiggy, Zomato, and other platforms. Reinstatement requires paying all overdue AMF plus applicable penalties.

What is the FSSAI Annual Maintenance Fee?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India introduced a major reform effective April 1, 2026. Under this reform, all FSSAI registrations and licenses now have perpetual (lifetime) validity — there is no more 1-year, 2-year, or 5-year renewal cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is AMF the same as FSSAI renewal? +

No. FSSAI renewal (as it existed before April 2026) meant re-applying for a new license when the old one expired. From April 2026, licenses don't expire at all — they have perpetual validity. AMF is a yearly maintenance payment to keep the license in "Active" status. It is simpler and much faster than the old renewal process.

What if I already have a pre-April 2026 FSSAI license? +

If your license was issued before April 1, 2026, it still has its original expiry date. You must complete one last renewal before it transitions to the perpetual validity + AMF system. We can handle that renewal too — see our FSSAI renewal page. After the transition, only AMF applies going forward.

When exactly is the AMF due each year? +

AMF is due on the anniversary of your registration date every year. For example, if you registered on April 3, 2026 — your AMF is due on April 3 every year going forward. The exact date is visible on your FoSCoS portal account. With our AMF Management service, you don't need to track this — we monitor it and remind you 30 days before it's due.

Can I manage AMF myself without a consultant? +

Yes, you can log into the FoSCoS portal (foscos.fssai.gov.in) and pay your AMF directly. However, many business owners forget the due date or face portal issues.
